Information for referring GPs
Our surgeons are happy to receive referrals from general practitioners, emergency physicians, rheumatologists and other specialists.
Foot and ankle surgeons are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of complex conditions affecting the lower extremities, including fractures, ligament injuries, tendon disorders, and congenital deformities. A/Prof Platt and Dr Phegan have specialised training and expertise in the anatomy, biomechanics, and pathology of the foot and ankle. They are equipped to provide comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of these areas.
In cases where conservative treatments such as rest, physiotherapy, or orthotics are insufficient, our surgeons can perform surgical interventions to address underlying issues, including reconstructive surgery, arthroscopic procedures, and joint replacements.
Athletes and individuals with sports-related injuries may require specialist care for foot and ankle conditions such as sprains, fractures, and overuse injuries. Foot and ankle surgeons can provide personalised treatment plans to facilitate optimal recovery and return to activity.
Patients with chronic foot and ankle conditions such as arthritis, plantar fasciitis, bunions, or diabetic foot complications may benefit from the expertise of a foot and ankle surgeon for long-term management and symptom relief.
In cases where the diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear or when a patient desires a second opinion, referring to a foot and ankle surgeon can provide additional insights and recommendations to guide clinical decision-making.
Download A/Prof Platt's comprehensive GP guide to bunions, also known as Hallux Valgus, covering aspects such as pathology, clinical presentation, examination findings, treatment options (both non-operative and operative), post-operative care, and potential complications.
